Sockeye Salmon

July 1– July 20
Western Alaska, Bristol Bay
This
year Bristol Bay is scheduled to have a good run of sockeye. Fishing
will begin by June 14 and will continue through July 20. These fish
tend to be on the smaller side, averaging 5.5 pounds H&G. Few fish
exceed 7 pounds and few fish fall under 4 pounds. Competitive pricing
is the key to the success of this fishery. These salmon are a full
50% cheaper than Copper River sockeye, yet providing a high quality
product in large consistent volumes.

July 1– July 20
Western Alaska, Arctic Alaska Region
Traditionally, the Arctic region of Alaska produces some of the earliest
Sockeye salmon of the season. These fish have a high fat content
and excellent meat color. This production begins around June 15.
This Sockeye fishery occurs at the same time as the King fishery.
They have a high oil content and very uniform in size, averaging
about 5.8 lbs. dressed. 90% of these fish fall between 4 and
8 lbs dressed. This early production area is finished with King
and Sockeye salmon by the tenth of July.

continues through August 1, with the peak around July 17th.
Fishing takes place on Monday’s and Thursday’s, with

market sector. These fish are shipped Ocean run and average
